BALTIMORE BLAST
Head Coach: Danny Kelly
2012-13 Regular Season: 21-5
Playoffs: Champions – Chicago, W 2-0; Missouri, W 2-0

The Lowdown: Having reclaimed the MISL Championship a season ago behind a balanced attack and stellar goalkeeping from Championship Series MVP William Vanzela, the Blast appear prepared to take on all comers in defense of their throne. Coach Danny Kelly continues to maintain a strong core that should keep Baltimore close to the top of the tree again.

Key Losses: While most of the roster returns, the biggest loss is forward Machel Millwood, who led the Blast with 59 points a season ago. Also absent is defender Ptah Myers, who had 14 goals to help the Blast’s late-season surge to the top of the regular-season standings.

Key Returnees: Last season’s Defender of the Year Mike Lookingland is back to captain the side again after another standout season that saw him record 49 points and only two penalty minutes. Also back is creative midfielder Max Ferdinand, while Lucio Gonzaga could improve on his 58 points from a season ago.

Key Newcomers: While the Blast have a number of returnees who will likely step in offensively to fill Millwood’s absence, Frederico Moojen should be able to provide a solid return as he joins the squad from Wichita. The powerful forward led the Wings with 66 points a season ago, and will provide a strong presence close to goal that others will benefit from.

Outlook: The Blast, as always, will be a tough test for every team in the league. Having gone 29-6 at home during the past three regular seasons, Baltimore Arena will remain one of the toughest venues for opponents to get results in, and the side will be hopeful of earning its eighth championship.
