Head Coach: Eric Puls2012-13 Record: N/A
The Lowdown: One of two new sides in the MISL this season, the +Pennsylvania Roar have gone local to try and build a backbone for their new side. Coach Eric Puls had extensive outdoor playing experience, being a three-time All-League selection in the USL D3 Pro League for the Reading Rage, who he went on to coach following his playing career.
The Veterans: A key to success in the MISL has been goalkeeping, and the Roar have brought the experience of Peter Pappas on board to provide strong leadership for the side. Pappas is a four-time indoor Goalkeeper of the Year, and while coming out of retirement, he has remained close to the game through his work for the Philadelphia Union in MLS. Another key pair of veterans will be Chris Williams and Ptah Myers, who both arrive from defending champion Baltimore. Myers in particular had a strong showing last season, recording 34 points in 25 games, and will be expected to lead from the back.
The Newcomers: Former Gardner-Webb goalkeeper Scott Krotee will be competing with Pappas for playing time in net, while also aiming to learn from the veteran’s experience in his first pro season. Also joining the squad is Gibrilla Conde, who will hope to find success as he steps into the professional ranks for the first time, and former University of New Hampshire forward Jordan Thomas.
Outlook: As with many expansion sides, things are likely to be tough for the Roar in their first season. The question will be how quickly they can get up to speed with the rest of the league and build chemistry within the squad.
